With Mags Dad still at Bury hospital :( and not much wind forecast for the weekend ( got that wrong as several a good sail at Felixstowe today on big kit - but we had a great time in the kayak) we booked into our favourite Thorpe Woodlands campsite on Friday for a couple of nights. After the hospital visit which went well, meeting up with Mag's brother Richard as well and our usaul fish and chips we were ready for another trip along the Little Thet. We had a leisurely morning and I set about getting the inflatable kayak ready. I should have known we were in for trouble when it took two attempts to inflate with a twisted bladder making things difficult :( we got there in the end with Mag saving the day being able to release the air so we could untwist it !!! So at approx 2 we were on the water and headed downstream this time toward Thetford, but because we had to paddle back we decided to kayak to the lakes by Shadwell Hall and stop there. As last time the river was very weedy and we had to pass by and over fallen trees, under bridges and weirs and walk in several places as it was very shallow which was slow going !!! At one place we had to scramble up the bank through stinging nettles to get past a fallen tree !!! We made it to the lakes which were covered in ducks and the hall was impressive but we thought we had better get back before we were told off by the game keeper !!! On the way back we saw two deer in the river to go with the heron and egrets we saw as well :) Again through the nettles which we thought nothing of until later when we got back to our van and had the most terrible sleepless night with itchy painful tingling :) we will avoid nettles next time!!!! Still the three and a half hour kayaking was great even if I am still itchy a whole day later !!!
